Grateful Dead Giants Stadium 1987, 1989, 1991 Box

Figure this deserves a thread.

By 1987, the Grateful Dead had lived many of their nine lives but were about to embark on one not a soul had seen coming. In The Dark, their first studio album in seven years, had spawned a hit (A TOP 10 SINGLE FOR THE GRATEFUL DEAD?!) and "Touch Of Grey" begat a new generation with their fanny packs and their MTV and their undeniable quest to join the party already in progress. And boy, did the Dead let them in! But not without fine-tuning their sonic...

My brother went off to college in 1982 and got on the radio station. On Thanksgiving break he came home with a few new bands he was listening to. The Furs were the first one he played me. He had their first album and Forever Now which had just come out. I loved them right away and asked for their first three albums for xmas. He also played me Yazoo's first album. I ended up getting their second one the next year so I think of these two bands together but The Furs have always been a band I...

Do we know who sings the emotional “yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah” during the fade of WMGGW?

I hear Paul. Is it?

I quite like Still Cruisin' and get why the three oldies were included. However, my ideal copy would replace them with three songs from their 80's catalogue.

Which three songs would you put on 'my' album?

I want to combine the two of these artists, because it was a bit of a pity that they ever split up, and even they have said that , I believe.

These guys have an amazing musical history and also a quiet brilliant set of recorded works together and apart.

Here are some excerpts that set up who we are dealing with and how they all came together.

Gouldman was born in Broughton,...

The Affair -- new show on Showtime

So I watched the first episode of this show because it was free and I had an hour to kill this morning. The first half of the show was told from the man's perspective the second half of the show was told from the woman's. I have no idea where it's going but it was pretty interesting. Anyone else watch it or know anything about it?

Ringo's Drumming Ability After 1973

Huge Beatles and Ringo fan here. I have noticed that after a flurry of Ringo contributions to John and George's initial solo albums, his drumming contributions to the albums of others seemed to grind to a halt after George's Living In The Material World. Apart from an occasional appearance with George and Paul in the 80's and 90's he never seemed to play drums on anyone else's albums.

Do you think that his drumming ability deteriorated that rapidly post-Beatles or was it more of an...

Does anyone else think U2's "Windows In The Skies" is extremely underrated?

Arguably some of Bono's finest lyrics

"I know I hurt and I made you cry, did everything but murder you and I. But love left a window in the skies, and to love I rhapsodize"

As for the video - well it's up there with the best ever made in my opinion.

Starter for ten,Keith Emerson(r.i.p.). Massive record sales, huge following, but imho could have done so much more. His early work with The Nice promised so much...but the noodling doodling pomp rock that he espoused with E.L.P left this consumer cold. I have a gut feeling that I may well be in the minority here...perhaps you have a better example?

Live AID: At the time, did you think Queen stole the show?

I was always a big Queen fan, so I was glued to my tv waiting for them to come on. When they took the stage, I thought it was a decent show. It wasn't part of a long tour, so Mercury's voice was in good form, nor even a full concert, so he had physical energy to spare and they could just do their biggest and/or more recent hits which packed a big punch into a short time. So by their standards, yeah, it was a good show.

I just read Doctor Who's Jodie Whitaker taking the stage at some...

I'm pretty sure I will give this a wide berth.

Seen some reviews, sounds like a curates egg.

Either way, it seems completely unnecessary.

Year Zero between "Old" and "New" music

I'm getting a strong feeling for the first time in my life that there is a major dividing line between music of the "past" and the present and future music.

This would be something along the lines of an early 50's rock and roll moment, where in the space of 5-10 years, all trad music was seen as old fashioned.

It happened when I felt that I could no longer play music in a social context with younger people without it sounding hopelessly old fashioned, almost like I had put on Big Band...

Orchestral Moon River - Help pls

Hi Chaps

Can anybody recommend any particularly good orchestral recordings for Mancini's 'Moon River'?

I recently attended a concert (daughter plays in an orchestra), and they played this piece. Whilst I'm not a particular fan, this piece sounds incredible in a large string orchestra. They also played "open arms" by Journey.. I had no idea how emotional this could sound when played by a string orchestra.

Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm after orchestral only, no vocals....

I watched the first episode of Homeland on Showtime last night. Premise: A POW in Iraq is found in a raid and returns to the US a hero. But is he a hero, or was he turned during his time in Iraq? Is he the Manchurian Candidate for the new Millennium?

It's from some of the guys who gave us 24.

I thought it was very good, and I'll definitely be watching subsequent episodes.

This being Showtime, they took the "premium cable has to push the boundaries" approach to sex and language. Kind...

I love monsters. I love music. I love songs about monsters. I still remember years ago being at a flea market and buying a promotional 45 single with the theme song for The Green Slime. I recall gleefully hearing The Monster Mash for the first time as a kid.

What are some of your favorite monster songs?

I recently came across the 40th anniversary, half speed masterered edition of Arrival. I was quite surprised as it is one of the few half speed mastered AND 45rpm reissues I know of now.

Can anyone tell me if this reissue is worth it? Also what did they use as their cutting source?
