The Rolling Stones --- Sucking In The Eighties

Downhill time for The World's Greatest Rock 'n ' Roll band...but far from down and out.

Only five studio albums in this decade :
' Emotional Rescue '
' Tattoo You '
' Undercover '
' Dirty Work '
' Steel Wheels '

Lots of highs , lots of lows.
For me , ' Tattoo You ' is by far the best album of the bunch...but some may disagree.

Let It Be Naked

Listened to this for the first time in a number of years. Much better than I remembered. I never liked the orchestration. I’m not a Beatles fanatic, even though I have almost everything they did. Kind of cool to hear them stripped down and raw.

Bruce Springsteen - Live Archive Releases

I have always wanted Bruce to release official live recordings of classic shows. I have bought all of them so far in normal def. flac and they sound good (not amazing) with the 88 show sounding the best IMHO. Maybe it's because I had good quality boots of all but the latest, I have found that I play 'em once and they sit on the digital shelf. I've been a big fan since 78 and I still play the albums up through TOL not infrequently and some of the newer stuff as well. I just can't seem to...

What record store(s) did you work at?

While reading this forum, a lot of members mention a record store they worked at. Which one? Where? When I would travel somewhere I would always hit up as many as I could.

I had worked at these stores in the 70's and 80's
Roxy Records - Hattiesburg, MS - mid 70's . a small shop across the the USM campus I worked at during college
Camelot Music - Hattiesburg, MS - went to work there after Roxy closed. Typical mall corporate store but I learned a ton about country, cajun and even classical....

Oppo is soon to be gone, what are some other good choices for a disc player?

I love my Oppo 103 and ordered a 203. Still, I wonder what else is highly regarded for a spinner.
I'm not restricting uses so this thread could be helpful to more folks. For me, I use my player for blu-rays, 3D, DVDs, some streaming and music discs such as SACDs, DVD-A's, blu-rays and, of course, CDs.

With the 203 coming I'll be adding 4K discs to the mix though I read there's some kind of software built in all 4K players that could potentially force online registration with your discs...

British-Englishisms that Americans may not understand in song lyrics

With apologies to the Australian-Englishisms thread here there must be an equal amount of English colloquialisms and slang in records that Americans are mystified by. Does anyone have any?

Surrounded On Sundays - 5.1/quad reviews and summaries

I know a lot of folks aren't interested in surround sound, but I also know that some folks, like me, really enjoy it.
I thought it may be interesting to have a once a week post that looks at the mixes of some of these albums.
I know when I first started getting surround sound albums, it seemed a little hit and miss with the mixes. Some were fantastic and some were somewhat a waste of time, or poorly conceived.

I think some albums really come alive in a 5.1 or quad format, and some just...

With some 250,000 discussions and 13 million posts, this has likely been done before. What are some songs or albums or artists or even whole genres of music that a fellow member recommended in a post that you’ve come across here that have made your life better in some way? Got you through some times? Picked you up on crappy day? Became part of your life’s musical canon that you simply can’t do without? The only stipulation is that the recommendation had to be something new to you at...

POLL: Favorite "greatest hits" compilation by the Who

The high number of compilations by the Who is amazing; thus, I decided to make a poll to see which collections are preferred by music fans from this forum.

I only listed the compilations that I consider as more relevant, but you can choose "other" (and post the name) if your favorite one was excluded. Take into account that I'm only talking about "greatest hits" or "best of" collections; that's why I didn't include compilations featuring outtakes/rarities, such as Odds & Sods...

Cliff Richard - Back from the Wilderness Singles and Albums 1975 - 1995

"I made it through the wilderness," Madonna sang in her hit "Like a Virgin". Well, Cliff has often been referred to as a born-again virgin, and in the mid-seventies, he really was in the wilderness. He started out as a rock´n´roller, deeply influenced by Elvis Presley. But in 1959, barely a year into his career, he started releasing MOR hits. The rock´n´roll tracks were still to be found on his albums, but the single releases grew more and more dependent on ballads and pop tracks. He kept on...

Muse Announce New Origin of Muse Box Set | Pitchfork

As a big fan of the first two albums, there is some great unreleased stuff here to look forward to, including demos and live shows.

However, what I find incredibly stupid is that there are no standalone deluxe type vinyl reissues for both albums including at least the b-sides. Highly disappointing.

Quite a few of their album/DVD sales are under certified. Who would be likely to update them with the RIAA, capitol or universal music? Thanks.

When you bought a expensive rare record and find one skip on it. get refund or keep?

It is a bit pathetic to ask a forum for my decisions in life. I believe I have people who read some thread I posted earlier about me owning it. So, yeah, I recently bought a record on eBay for $1,000, it being velvet underground Nico Mono second press with emerson censor sticker and banana unpeeled. Only one problem. Starting song, Sunday morning has a skip on it. I mean the record has static and pops throughout,if I recall but remember it being nothing to complain about. Can this keep...

I spot somewhere that there are still many movies that have not been made it to dvd yet and are only available on VHS. Is it true?

Recommend me an album like McCartney's "Ram"

It has to be mostly acoustic, packed with nice melodies, some weird/under the influence stuff thrown in for good measure and that homemade feel even if it wasn't made at home.

Any recommendation that suits this description will do. Can be a band, a solo artist, from the past, from the present, and from the future if you happen to know any. And not necessarily from the Pop/Rock planet.
Doesn't have to be sung in English either, in fact it can even be an instrumental album.

Show me what you got.
